Please join the IWL Community Service Committee as we partner with the Idaho Volunteer Lawyers Program (IVLP) to offer our membership a fabulous pro bono opportunity! As you may know, the IVLP coordinates pro bono legal clinics for individuals in our community who cannot afford legal services. Unfortunately, many of the clinics have been canceled this year due to COVID-19. However, IVLP is partnering with IWL to host a National Pro Bono week pro-bono telephone clinic!
During the week of October 26-October 30, IWL volunteers will have the ability to choose a time slot that works for them to participate in a 2-hour clinic in which the lawyer will call an individual and assist with answering legal questions. Here is how it will work:
1. The volunteer attorneys fill out a form in advance indicating their availability (in 2-hour blocks of time) and the types of subjects/calls they are willing to return. Calls tend to fall in these categories: family, employment, housing, bankruptcy, collections, and probate;
2. IVLP conducts the intake of potential clients, determines income eligibility, and then schedules the return calls with the volunteer attorneys;
3. There is no time limit for each call, but the calls are designed as short advice calls (15-30 minutes); and
4. IVLP’s malpractice insurance covers the volunteer attorneys.
